Brazil banned sale of iPhones & fines Apple for Abusive Practice

Brazil Fines Apple $20 Million for Not Including Chargers With iPhones and Says "Abusive Practice"

The country's consumer watchdog is upset at the fact that Apple has stopped including charging adapters with its iPhones. The company has said that the move is part of its effort to reduce the amount of electronic waste that the company creates. However, a judge in Brazil has found that this policy forces costumers to buy a second product. As a result, Apple has been ordered to include chargers with all of its new products in the country.

A civil court judge in Sao Paulo found that Apple is engaging in an "abusive practice" when selling iPhones without chargers. The company is required to pay $20 million for the violation, which is set to stand for several years. However, Apple has the right to appeal the ruling. Earlier this year, the justice ministry in Brazil fined Apple $2.5 million for the same offense. It also barred Apple from selling iPhone models without chargers starting in October 2020.
