Google Chrome Ending Support for Millions of Devices

In Early 2023 - Google Announced Google Chrome No Longer Supports Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 - Millions of Devices Suffer - Full Report

In early 2023, Google Chrome will stop supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Windows 7 has been out of support since January 14, 2020, and Windows 8.1 will be out of support until January 10, 2023. While there is still a large user base for these operating systems, the end of Chrome support could be a big blow to many users.

The Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 operating systems still have a considerable market share in the desktop operating system market. According to Statcounter, these systems account for roughly 14 percent of the global market. While these figures may not be exact, they do point out that millions of devices are still using these older operating systems. Therefore, the decision to end support for these operating systems will create a new opportunity for other browsers.

Microsoft and Google have agreed to end support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 in early 2023. This decision was announced on the Google Support Manager website, but Google has since shifted its focus to Windows 10. The last version of Chrome for these operating systems is expected to be released on February 7, 2023. Until then, users of Windows 7 or 8.1 will need to upgrade to Windows 10 to enjoy the latest features of Chrome.

The current stable version of Chrome is version 106.0.5249, which was released on October 11th, 2017. Chrome versions 107 and 108 are in the Dev and Beta channels. Chrome version 109 is in the early Canary Channel for desktops. Earlier versions will be supported until the end of 2017.

Microsoft dropped extended support for Windows 7 in January 2020 and transitioned to an extended security update period of three years. Windows 8.1 will also reach end of support in January 2023. Because of its popularity, Microsoft will no longer offer the ESU program. By 2023, Windows 7 will no longer receive security updates.

Google Chrome is a great browser that has several benefits. Its security updates keep your device protected from phishing attacks, viruses, trojans, spyware, and adware. In addition, it comes with features that make it easier to use. A number of features will be included in the next version that will make your user experience even better.
